The drift car's bold exterior is a combination of screaming red candy paint by Weld and vinyl graphics by Art Factory in Japan. Nothing could be more fitting than Yoshi's choice of a fire-breathing dragon in a wheelchair to warn others of his formidable abilities behind the wheel. The Vertex body kit was chosen for its performance-minded styling, with a mix of carbon fiber and fiberglass. Ganador side mirrors keep his competition in sight and the Xanthic forward-facing hood gives him full access to his engine.
Yoshi, a Yokohama native, has had the car for four years with this $50,000 setup. "No one is doing this with hand controls," he explains, "and I have yet to make a mistake when drifting!" While his mom was not too happy about him returning to drifting so soon after his accident, after watching him in the car she has come to support him in his efforts, and enjoys watching him win at the drifting events he attends in Japan. Asked of his next goal, Yoshi admits "being able to enter D1 races would be fantastic! I hope to try and get my license this year." As for future projects, he is tempted to give Weld his wheelchair to have it fitted with an engine and spec'd out for drifting. Considering Yoshi's talents and determination, we may just see a new sport emerging on ESPN!
