AP1 Honda S2000 - Zock On!

Tamon Design's Zaku AP1 S2000 Is Japanese Art At Its Finest: Just Don't Wack Off To It

Translate at your own risk. What I took from it is that Shoji is a constant designer, always dropping design dimes on the minute, sketching them out wherever he is, and that he may be taking hallucinogens. But that's just my take. At any rate, Shoji seems to be a one profound cat, creating designs as fresh as this S2000. It's been on the cover of Option 2 and Auto One 2, a local print mag in Hokkaido. It has definitely garnered the attention Shoji wanted, and it's helped set a new standard in body kits.

The front side accentuates the elongated hood of the S2000, highlighting it with what seems like teardrops on the hood, probably stemming from Shoji's experiences with wringing out his towel. The fenders are lined with gill-like slits, further giving the whip a more aerodynamic feel. Cover it up with an original matte green paint, and the S2000 starts to resemble one mean looking lizard. The widebody stance provides the sporty "Don't F with me" look, while the rump is as bootylicious as Beyonce in a one-piece outfit. Of course, the details are how we can separate this body kit from the competition. Take, for example, the F1-inspired rear brake transformed into a stylish slit. Something subtle like that, incorporated to the overall design, is what makes Shoji-san a genius designer.

To help showcase the body kit in it fullest potential, Tamon Design lowered the S2K with ultra-choice Ohlins DFV full-length adjustment model coilovers. These coilovers provide more than lowering capabilities. Take this S2K to the track, and the Ohlins suspension system will improve acceleration, handling and braking. No wonder it costs more than an arm, a leg and a healthy liver. Rolling the chassis to proper accords is set of 19-inch Rays Gram Lights 57 wheels, wrapped in Dunlop SP Sport MAXX tires. These Gram Lights are as sexy as Miley Cyrus pretending she's Chinese, and as futuristic as the spaceship it seemingly came from. In other words, these wheels are ahead of its time.

Thus, bringing us to the ultimate point: Whether or not this S2000 is your flavor, it's undoubtedly one of the most unique S2000s you'll see in a while. Tamon Design doesn't shame the original chassis of cars, but rather brings attention to parts of the chassis that would otherwise be overlooked. And maybe Shoji-san is a tad bit crazy, but that's what we love about the Japanese. This is why I will continue to get shook by their car designs and continue to watch their equally crazy movies. So hand me my towel and grab me a pack of smokes.
