Back in '88, three female emcees known as J.J. Fad released "Supersonic", a song which, some 13 years later, happens to perfectly embody Willie Yee's '94 Toyota Supra Twin Turbo. Coincidence? I'm not so sure.
Imagine, if you will, an alternative (and cooler?) universe where the bug-eyed guy from Kid 'n' Play is president and all communication is done via an intricate language of pop-locking. A universe where the Fat Boys are still going strong, Kangols are mandatory by law, and J.J. Fad is a kind of rhyming Nostradamus whose raps prophesy the coming of various Japanese super cars. The CR-X in this issue? J.J. Fad would've known about it. The Altezza? That one also.
By this logic, then, it's inevitable that this alternative universe J.J. Fad would attempt to contact our universes, through a series of subliminal messages transmitted during sleep. And what would that message be? The following lyric from "Supersonic" of course: "The "S" is for "super," the "U" is for "unique," the "P"is for "perfection," and you know that we are freaks. The "E" is for "exotic," and the R is for "raps." So, tell those nosy people just to stay the hell back." Change the verse so that "R" stands for "red," ignore the part about rapping freaks, and the entire last sentence, and you've got Willie's Supra in rhyme form. The proof lies in the performance. The 650-plus horsepower cranked out by this Supra Twin Turbo is definitely "super", and anyone who tells you otherwise is a dirty liar, like certain members on this staff (Can you guess which one?). Most impressive is the fact that the engine's internals have remained stock and that the majority of horsepower gains have been derived from bolt-on, off-the-shelf parts-not the chain-link-steering-wheel variety, but rather a whole load of performance enhancing gadgets from HKS.
Managing the Supra's fuel needs are an HKS Vein Pressure Converter, Graphic Control Computer, and Fuel Cut Defencer. An HKS T04R single turbo upgrade kit provides extra boost, that is governed by a Super Sequential blow-off valve, and a GT wastegate. Doing their part to provide a few extra horsepower is a Super Dragger exhaust and a Super Mega Flow air intake. A Twin Power ignition sets all the pins in a row and iridium spark plugs knock 'em down.
It's taken Willie three years to bring his Supra to completion. Along the way, HKS and Cali supertuners, SP Engineering, have helped to satisfy Willie's thirst for power. Try to get close and this Supra's already run around the block, done fifty push-ups, and stolen your girlfriend it's that fast. Throw in the HKS EVC IV turbocharger boost controller, turbo exhaust manifold, and Type R front mount intercooler, and you've got a turbocharged work of art.
As for that alternative universe mentioned earlier, perhaps it's all just a dream-albeit a very beautiful, scary, and fragile one. Yet it was just such a dream that led to the creation of the adrenaline-charged Supra seen in these pages. A dream to be faster, better, and stronger. And just maybe, if we shelter and nourish such dreams with careful love and affection, just maybe we'll wake up one day to find the Cabbage Patch in our hearts, an import in our garage, and J.J. Fad mud wrestling on the front lawn. And that, my friends, would be most super of all.
