Ring Around The Rosie - 1999 Toyota Soarer

Drifting Is Good When You Have The Posies In Your Pocket

Photography by Boyd Jaynes, Wesley Allison

You can glean the most important aspect of the Soarer, that ever-elusive balance, from every angle. Takahiro doubles up the light HKS Power racing seats instead of running a solo sitter to maintain the point/counterpoint on the interior. The entire dash is interlaced with dry carbon fiber, encasing the stacks of HKS gauges with the lightest material available. The Hyper Max coilovers melt into the track with perfect suspension, breaking out the graceful Rays Engineering GT-C wheels to spin freely through the apexes. It's a light and solid car all at the same time. It's like Ashley Judd playing a tough femme role: Sexy, strong, and totally doable.

In the end, when it comes down to it, Mr. No One Better Nobuteru and his pals better keep an eye out for Takahiro Ueno. Once his quest to find the perfect balance beam nears perfection, the only thing that could stop him might just be crossing the finish line-in First Place. Even then, there isn't a chance that he'll remain satisfied with the Soarer. With an R32 Skyline, an FC3S, an AE86, and a 180SX under his belt, it's safe to assume that his idea well is far from running dry. Which could mean that his pockets are full of posies, but since that never made any sense, we'll just have to wait and see.
