You might not believe it, but Super Street puts its editors through lots of torture for you readers. And since our parent company, Primedia, is responsible for most of the bulls$#t, we're also forced to park two miles away from the office and ride a shuttle in.
But then there's the kind of agony that Super Street can be held solely responsible for. Take our relatively new EXC section, for example. We're forced to photograph and write about baller cars like this '01 Toyota Soarer (aka the Lexus SC 430) from Blitz, knowing damn well there's no way in hell we could own such a specimen with our microscopic paychecks. It's like telling Jonny to do a review on hand lotion without letting him "test" it out. Or throwing Roel's balut out of the fridge because you think it's just a rotten egg.
Try thinking of something to write about the 19-inch Technospeed Z3 wheels while you're eating your brown-bag lunch in Nads' office. It's more difficult than you think. We'd like to see you keep a smile on your face when you find out that the factory V-8 pushes out 315hp and 376 lb-ft of torque thanks to twin Blitz Compressor C7 superchargers. Yeah, twin meaning there's two of them. The only super thing we do is supersizing our fries and sometimes we can't even afford to do that. Could you sleep at night knowing all these Blitz parts-from the Sachs dampers down to the Realize TT-R exhaust-amount to a down payment on a house? Even the automatic tranny gets more play than you with that ATF cooler.
See what we mean when we say torture? The fact that we shot this Soarer at Blitz headquarters with about 30 other bad-ass cars surrounding us didn't help either. It's more painful than a severe case of epididymitis. So why do we put up with it? Because you readers asked, no wait, demanded to see cars like this make their presence felt on the pages of Super Street. We'll continue to take the abuse as long as it keeps you guys ecstatic. We should be OK as long as nobody busts out the electric nipple clamps.
