Top Secret's R34 Skyline Shouldn't Catch You Off Guard, But It Will

If you don't know what to expect from a prestigious tuner such as Top Secret, then you should definitely consider investing in a little electroshock therapy. Just thumb through past issues of Super Street and you'll be able to count around half a dozen power-hitting super cars from these guys. Go ahead and look, we're not fibbing. Just in case you haven't figured it out, the word "simple" just isn't in this company's vocabulary. Who's the last tuner you saw who successfully squeezed an RB26DETT or 3SGTE motor into a JZA80 Supra? The same one that has more gold on their cars to make your Rolex look like a Folex. So why would you expect this Fusion RR Skyline BNR34 GT-R to be any more civilized than the rest of the pack? Shame on you.

In case you think Top Secret would leave the RB26DETT stock just because it's already a bomb-ass motor, then you're dead wrong. Suddenly, fusing strands of DNA together to form a new species seems simple compared to the work that this motor has been through. Simply slapping some Trust H-beam rods, HKS forged pistons, and Top Secret camshafts into the motor would be enough for some, but not these guys. Every engine component was balanced and blueprinted to ensure that the stout RB motor would be able to hold up under immense stress (something we haven't learned to do yet). Mounted to the specially ported head is a Top Secret 50mm exhaust manifold and Super surge tank. A GReddy T78 single turbo, directed by a PRofec-B boost controller and a Sard wastegate, force-feeds the hungry engine with more than enough boost to match the fuel coming out of the six 720cc injectors and twin Bosch fuel pumps. With so much power available, it's almost mandatory that an F-Con V Pro be used to take over the engine management duties.

Like every car that comes from Top Secret, all aspects of this R34 were designed so it could go fast and stop even faster. Maybe that'll help you understand the need for a $10,000 Hollinger six-speed sequential transmission and eight-pot Brembo calipers. Perhaps when you see how tightly this baby can cut every curve at triple-digit speeds, you'll realize that the Top Secret Super Damper suspension kit, urethane bushings, and Cusco limited-slip differential are absolutely necessary. If none of that convinces you, then go slam your head against a wall because your opinion doesn't matter anyway. OK, we admit that the 18x10.5 Volk Racing TE37 wheels might be a little overkill, but they look so damn good that we don't even care anymore.

Top Secret and the color gold go hand in hand. So why does it surprise you that this Skyline is drenched in the signature gold coating? It shouldn't. And neither should the fact that this R34 has gotten a complete makeover courtesy of Top Secret G-force aero parts. There's more to this car than just the front bumper, side skirts, and GTII rear wing. Heavy army artillery doesn't even stand a chance against this pachyderm's exterior. Kevlar underpanels, carbon-fiber rear diffusers, and vortex generators keep the car exceptionally steady at the ridiculously high speeds it's designed to go.

If you're searching for 12-inch subs, a PS2, or any other iced-out gimcracks inside, we wish you lots of luck cuz it's not gonna happen. As with most race cars, the interior of the R34 leaves nothing for the imagination to dwell upon. Two Recaro seats, a rollcage, and some gauges are all any race car needs. Let us rephrase, that's all this race car needs.
