Two weeks. After you watch that freak video on The Ring that's twice the amount of time you get before the psycho dead girl crawls out of your TV set to kill you. For us, it's about a week and five days longer than we can remain masters of our own domains. When it comes to the NOS Build Team, that's all the time they had to put together this '02 Subaru WRX. Not because a short deadline was thrown on them, mind you. This brief timeframe was set by them as a challenge to see if they could actually finish the car in time to make it to our Tour 2005. Not just to participate in it, but also to help promote the NOS Energy Drink that's been the buzz in everybody's ears.
Obviously the car was completed or else you'd have to sift through three pages of my lame writing with no pictures to look at. To say it was an easy task is definitely a discredit to the team that worked so hard on the car. From Brian Havins of Blindside Racing orchestrating the parts being delivered on time to the NOS team working all hours of the night, they managed to complete the car on time. Fortunately there was an endless supply of NOS Energy Drink on hand to keep everyone from dozing off Wonger-style.
On the aesthetics side, things were kept simple. Just a Liberal front spoiler painted to match the factory blue paint. The Paula Grant NOS graphics, however, were much more aggressive. Definitely wild enough to pull hot girls like the NOS models who trekked with us on the Tour.
In terms of performance, the car didn't need to be able to smoke all four tires through third gear. But it couldn't be stock either. Turbo XS supplied the NOS Team with a blow-off valve, intercooler, piping, and a boost controller. We're told that setup is good for 220 hp at the wheels. And that's before we factor in the NOS nitrous equipment. There's some laughing gas that isn't anything to laugh at.
The suspension mods consist of Tein Basic dampers and various Tanabe braces. On the four corners are Gram Lights 57C wheels with Falken tires. Fitted behind the front wheels are giant Rotora brakes with high-ceramic race pads.
The inside of the car is a bit more unique, stuffed with Netami racing seats, Auto Meter gauges, and various Sparco goodies. A custom drink rack was installed in the rear seat location in order to distribute the tasty beverages in an expedient manner. Despite all that, the team still managed to squeeze in an audio system consisting of a Pioneer head unit and Rockford Fosgate components.
With a mere 14 days to work on this car, the end result was quite impressive. It kind of makes us wonder how much crazier it would have been if the team had two more weeks or even a couple months to build the car. They're probably still awake from all the NOS Energy Drink they consumed during the build and Tour. From our calculations, they should be getting tired sometime in March of next year.
