Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 - Do we Have Your Attention Now?

They Say Japanese Tuning Is Dead. Try Telling That To Final Motion After You See This Monster Of A GT-R

Since people in Osaka can get away with pretty much anything, the owner requested that the wastegate screamer pipe exit on the side of the car, right through the side skirts! At the rear it's the carbon GT-Wing that dominates things, sitting on tall center-mounted billet aluminum wing stays. This has to be one of the most extreme rear wings on the market and thanks to its height and adjustability can create tons of downforce, just what you need when driving around fast circuits like Central. To further help stabilize the wing, adjustable rose-jointed rods have been added to the sides, making the R34 look more like a race car than a street car. Adjustable Quantum dampers allow the 18-inch NISMO LM GT4 wheels to fill up the wheel arches effectively. The white 10.5J wide rims are shod with sticky Yokohama Advan A048 rubber, which as the owner explains, are perfect even for the street when blasting around the Kanjo at night, Osaka's C1 equivalent where, like in Tokyo, street racers do their thing late at night! With the looks department truly taken care of, it was on to the mechanicals.

Morita-san received a simple request from the owner; to develop at least 600ps with usable and responsive mid-range, as the car would still need to be used on the street when not having fun at the track. Morita knew that a larger single turbo like a Trust T78 or T88 would be too extreme for his customer's requests but he also wanted to steer clear from a twin turbo set up. Externally gated single turbochargers inject tons of character to an RB26DETT thanks to their dramatic spool-up noises, not to mention the barking sounds of the wastegate, so he decided to use the smaller TD07S-25G turbo from Trust. This was fitted to the RB26 via a Final Motion exhaust manifold and controlled by the Trust external wastegate, which dumps gasses out the side of the car via the custom titanium screamer pipe we saw peeking through the side skirts! The Final Motion front pipe connects up to the straight-through titanium exhaust, which has no signs of a catalyst or any sub silencers.

To prepare the engine for the higher boost level the TD07S would supply, Tomei H-section connecting rods were fitted to Tomei forged pistons; then the engine was then completed with Tomei Poncams and a Tomei metal head gasket. When lifting the lightweight carbon-Kevlar hood, one of the first things that stands out has to be the hand-welded titanium intake pipe, connecting the Blitz cone filter to the TD07S turbine. The large core GReddy intercooler has been fitted with a water-spray system, which can be actuated manually or set on automatic, spraying a fine mist of water onto the core when intake temperatures get high. And on the subject of cooling, Final Motion fitted their side-flow radiator and aluminum overflow tank, a great set-up for cars that are often thrashed on track. A Trust oil cooler has been positioned on the driver-side of the bumper, perfect for getting a constant flow of air helping it do its job efficiently. Final Motion mapped the car on the highway using an A'PEXi Power FC ECU, tuning the fuel and ignition maps to get the most power out of the engine. The fueling system was upgraded with SARD 720 cc/min injectors, fed by an in-tank SARD fuel pump, supplying enough high octane gas to develop 620 PS. The broad torque curve starts making itself felt from as low as 3,500 rpm before peaking at 5,200 rpm with a massive 62 kgm. To handle all the twists, ATS supplied their twin plate carbon clutch, an item rated to 700 ps. The rear LSD was upgraded with another ATS carbon piece, helping the R34 put all that power down to the road efficiently.
