Illtech Auto Salon Catches All The Little Details
Most MKIV Supras are either very mild or overly-done to the point where they start losing the whole look of a Supra. Cody Johnson of Illtech Auto Salon, has put together his Supra without losing that Supra feel. No crazy body kit and no crazy wide custom-made wheels. Instead he decided to put all the effort in the details and smaller things. "It's easier to over-build a Supra rather than take the road we did and engineer a show-going road-handling car with a more usable power band for the street and strip."
From far, you might think this car is black. But once you get closer and the light hits it just right, you can see the heavy bronze pearl metallic paint that has hues of black, gold, green, and brown all intertwined. And as you get closer to the exterior you'll notice rather than having a wild body kit, this Supra's body has been even more simplified and bodylines enhanced at the same time. Custom metal work has been done to both front fenders and both rear quarter panels pulling them out and shaping them around the 19" forged monoblock Volk CE28N rims. To keep from interrupting the bold bodylines the spoiler, rear wiper, antenna and the four side markers were all shaved off. Even to another Supra owner, those minor things don't immediately jump out, it's those small details that let you know the whole build process of the car was thoroughly thought-out. Cody tells us, "Try to enjoy the process. It's more exciting than the end result!"
Coming to the engine, this fully-built 2JZ-GTE has all the goodies anyone could want. From the brightly colored purple and blue HKS cam gears all the way down to the knife-edged crankshaft. One of the more custom parts is the custom prototype turbo, a hybrid Turbonetics/Garrett unit. I'm a little unsure why Illtech chose to do this, but I'm sure the car makes more power than any car I've ever owned. And of course when you have a Supra, you to have that 2JZ backed by the essential Getrag six-speed transmission.
With all the crazy parts offered for this timeless legend, it's rare to find one not overly-built and not under-built. Cody and Illtech put this one together to show you they can customize and fully fabricate a car while not losing any of it's spirit.
