TAMON DESIGN STRIKES AGAIN WITH A SUPRA TRANSFORMER

John C. Naderi
Sep 23, 2007

Tamon Shoji's back, baby! And he's packing another mash-up, the likes of which haven't been seen since Steve Dunne mixed Elvis Costello with Public Enemy (What's so funny about... Peace! Peace! Peace!... love and under... Peace! Peace!). You might recognize some of Shoji-san's previous works, such as still life with winglets, or perhaps his chop-top RX-7 orange whip as seen on our May '06 cover. Tamon Design flipped his freaky FD onto the Falken booth at the '06 Tokyo Auto Salon and at this year's TAS, Shoji-san brought another strange brew - this cherry-bomb Supra.

Tamon Design's, uh, designs are definitely polarizing - you'll either purely love 'em or hate 'em. Homie done put 21's on a Supra. And aren't they fabulous! Really- they're made by Fabulous. All of the proper J-spec players are represented on this car from the Project ? brakes, Endless coilovers, and Trust performance pieces. But the true scene-stealer is the Tamon Design TDC GT-1 SP version body kit. Check out how the exhaust exits through the strakes of the rear diffuser and the carbon fiber side skirts are fitted with an electronic bulletin board from Noritake Itron (Shoji-san denied our requests to spell out "Cater drives worse than a girl"). What of the fenders? Oh, those fine fenders. They look like a Transformer in mid-transformation. We can't wait to see what Tamon Design plans to drop on next year's TAS. The only thing we can be sure of is that it's going to be wild.

Created exclusively for Japan, the model gets no powertrain upgrades but looks fantastic enough that we don’t really care.
