Project Grip: 2008 911 Turbo

Hardliner: 2007 Porsche 911 Turbo Evosport EV03-900
Feature excerpt: "After lifting the throttle, I muttered to Evosport's Simon Atik alongside me in equal parts astonishment and amusement, 'This thing's ridiculous!' He agreed: 'It's far too fast for this road.' Evosport is renowned for its tuning work on BMW and AMG models, but that hasn't stopped them working on Porsches as well. Prior to this evo3-900 conversion, the company created the evo3-750 and evo3-850, with the final three digits indicating overall engine output."
"Under daily driving conditions, the car slides on a wave of torque but you don't sense the turbos spooling until you dip deeper into the throttle. As the revs rise, the sleeping giants are nudged awake, and while a stock Turbo is more responsive down low, probably getting the jump on this evo3 off the line, it would be no match for what happens when the GT30s start spinning."

Down With SPP: 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera S
Feature excerpt: "As a business, SPP stepped up to the big league a few years ago, working on high-end sports cars, such as the Porsche 911 Turbo on last month's cover (EC 4/13), while remaining true to its sport compact roots. Eric's personal cars have followed suit, progressing from 3 Series and A4 to his current Porsche 911."
"Vorsteiner's work led to the pre-preg carbon fiber V-GT aero kit you see here. It includes the V- GT front spoiler with splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear wing. The body kit costs a hefty $10k but Eric wasn't afraid to paint over it. 'We looked at painting everything white,' Eric explained, 'but it seemed to flow better with part of the front splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser left in carbon. And the quality is so good it was a shame to cover it all.'"

Like a Charm: Werks One Porsche 911 Turbo

Country Club Racer: 2008 Porsche 911 GT2
Feature excerpt: "The engine was set to the insurance-friendly 620 whp as I rolled into the Autobahn Country Club's pitlane behind a Ferrari 458. 'This could get interesting...' I thought to myself. A few seconds after the flagman let the 458 go, he waved me through as well."
"The car pulls away with the same ease as a regular VTG turbo. Throttle response is immediate, even at low revs. And as the revs rise, you feel the familiar turbo nudge but, with this engine, the power is more linear. It increases with revs, where the stock motor has a pronounced bulge in the middle that tapers away beyond 6000rpm."
Why we love it: "The engine sounds unlike most Porsche flat-six turbos. The normal drumbeat is muffled and the exhaust note is both tighter and more high-strung. It moans more than roars."
