• Lexus and DeviantArt challenge design community to modify IS
• Rob Evans from Seattle, Washington wins first place
• Winning concept to be created by VIP Auto Salon
• DeviantArt’s IS rendition will be displayed at SEMA, November 5-8
The all-new 2014 Lexus IS sport sedan, which made its first appearance at the 2013 Detroit auto show, generated a fierce buzz with its revised styling. Fans of the 306hp Lexus IS found the aggressive styling refreshing, while the naysayers felt the spindle grille was overdone. Love it or hate it, this November the third-generation IS will head to the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas.
This year for SEMA Lexus did something special – they got the design community involved by partnering with DeviantArt. The goal was to challenge fans to showcase their own vision for the 2014 IS with custom exterior treatments and modifications. The winner’s concept will be modified by VIP Auto Salon in 10 weeks to reflect the rendering. It will also be displayed at the Lexus space at SEMA in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Over 600 submissions were narrowed down to three, with judges selecting the winners based on originality and how much potential the rendering had to make it as an actual executable design. Rob Evans from Seattle, Washington took first place. His design will appear at the SEMA show, and he will receive a one-year lease for a 2014 Lexus IS F Sport, $2,000, and a trip to this year’s SEMA show among some of the prizes. The second place winner was Lucia Lee of Pasadena, California, while Guanghao Huang from Southfield, Michigan placed third.
While the IS has been on showroom floors since June, the DeviantArt’s rendition won’t be revealed untill November at the SEMA show. The car will be in its exhibit located at the front of Central Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, November 5-8.
