Third generation Honda Fit to be revealed to the Japanese marketTwo available engine sizes: 1.3L and 1.5L Technological features offered such as the City-Brake-Active systemPricing starts at $12,000 for non-hybrid and $16,000 for hybrid
Honda has just announced the third generation launch of the Fit and Fit Hybrid that will arrive in Japan on September 6th, 2013. Known for its compact nature, the third gen Fit features a refined tank layout that reduces weight and provides more room in the passenger cabin.
Additionally, a new one-motor Sport Hybrid i-DCD (dual clutch drive) hybrid system that performs off-the-line starts in EV mode further increases gas mileage. Depending on which mode the driver is in (EV Drive, Hybrid Drive and Engine Drive) based on driving conditions, the system delivers a claimed fuel economy of 85 mpg.
Two engine sizes are offered including a 1.3L that is newly designed and offers a claimed fuel economy of 61 mpg. The 1.5L utilizes Honda’s direct injection technology for improved compact performance.
In traffic-heavy regions, the City-Brake-Active system is designed to help avoid fenders benders by initiating the brakes automatically prior to slow rolling impact. Avoiding the pump is a large advantage of the Honda Fit. Its hybrid system automatically links and unlinks the electric motor and gasoline engine when switching between the before mentioned drive modes. The electric servo braking system also increases efficiency while the fully electric compressor reduces engine load.
Four models will be made available including: Fit 13G Package (FWD), Fit Hybrid Package (FWD, scheduled for release in December 2013), Fit 15X L Package (FWD), and the Fit RS (4WD).
Prices for the non-hybrid start at 1,265,000 Yen ($12,633) and pricing for the hybrid starts at 1,635,000 ($16,328).
