By the time this issue hits print, the '14 Kia Forte Koup will already be offered at your local dealership. We'll give you a review on the new model in a later issue, but before the older body style went away, Kia lent us a '13 model for us to evaluate. We drove the premium SX model, which came with the 2.4-liter four cylinder that makes 173hp and 168 lb-ft. It's also equipped with sportier suspension, paddle shifters for the six-speed auto and a bunch of other features. It looks decent on paper, but we'll be the first to admit it's not going to woo you. The car could use some refinement in all areas such as power, handling and overall comfort. But at under $20k it's an okay package. The fuel economy isn't bad (23/32 mpg) and the design is quite sporty. You could compare it with the Honda Civic but it definitely doesn't beat it. Fingers crossed for the '14, Kia.
