Talk about natural progression, an STI edition of Subaru’s fast and fabulous BRZ seems like a no-brainer. We have been contemplating this next step for some time, citing the swap-ability of the turbocharged variant of the BRZ FA20 that Subaru is running in the Forester XT; the engine already exists! Before we boost up to 11, the BRZ STI could be a big-brake and body kit proposition, but rarely has the STI moniker been dropped on something sans true performance. So...we’re sticking with the full-volume turbo swap. There are plenty of signs pointing to this car coming out of the shadows. Subaru displayed an STI-emblazoned concept at the L.A. Auto Show a few years back; BRZs with STI-spec equipment have been looping the Nürburgring; and the people want the power—just look at the aftermarket support of the swoopy coupe.
