1995 Toyota Aristo - Brooklyn's Unpolished Gem

While cruising through the midnight city, you’re bound to come across a few things that are simply just out of the ordinary. Harlequin minivans, panhandling doo-wop groups, chicken party buses, etc. Though through all the insanity in The Big Apple, what I really couldn’t keep my eyes off of was this disgustingly luscious Toyota Aristo. It’s rough around the edges; there are a few dings and dents from sliding through the city, and the motor is generally stock (for a 2JZ), but goodness, this build has that “cool” factor bleeding from the eyeballs. There’s just something about watching it drift in and out of traffic as it screams for a glass of champagne that throws a special little feeling in your gut.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, owner Kemal Taskent called upon his overseas resources to hunt down this Aristo after his precious Skyline’s motor blew. Snagging inspiration from the Japanese 4-door street style while specializing in bodywork, Kemal handcrafted the majority of the car’s aero in his own garage under the brand name “SUPRLIFE.” The front bumper originally sourced from an ‘06 Lexus GS350, was molded to the factory Aristo body while the rear, sides, hood and spoiler are completely one-off. The massive wing is a bit over the top for some, but it’s just the kind of “in your face” modification Kemal was looking for. Aggressive yet classy as it sits atop the Toyota’s stanced-out big body—and he could not have been more spot on. This car is literally something Sam Du could pick his girl up in, hit the Vegas strip in style and meet up for some touge sliding afterwards. From the VIP wood grain cup holders and RHD interior to the plastic skull catch can and zip tied bumpers. It’s just badass.

Though the engine is practically untouched aside from a custom SUPRLIFE exhaust and front mount, the factory 2JZ along with a welded diff has been more than enough to keep Kemal occupied as he continues to daily drift his foreign sled through the war zone of intercity roads. Future plans are to aim for a little more power, more suspension and a bit more seat time in the competitive realm—but don’t worry, the cracked windshield is here to stay.
