FF Battle 5 Details:

  • Occurred at Raceline USA dyno and Willow Springs Raceway (Streets circuit), CA
  • Ten selected Honda/Acura owners
  • Brian Gillespie returns with a V6-powered Honda CRX
  • 259hp 2002 Civic Si wins dyno, 2007 Acura CSX Type-S wins road course

1988 Honda CRX
Name:Brian Gillespie
Class: Pro Street Class

Brian Gillespie from Hasport has been bringing this Honda CRX to almost every FF Battle we've hosted. Known for high-quality engine swap mounts, Hasport and Brian have made sure the CRX is powered by only the best of Honda motors: the B-series and K-series with both forced induction and naturally aspirated setups were used in the past. This year he brought the noise with a J35A 3.5L V6 motor that originally came from a 2003 Honda Odyssey. Boss right? We're hoping to see this yellow rocket for many more years to come. Dyno numbers totaled 266.4hp and 229.79 lb-ft of torque.

2011 Honda CRZ
Name:Daniel Herrera
Class: Pro Street Class

Bringing the newest chassis to FF Battle is Daniel Herrera in his 2011 Honda CRZ. Just like Jason Lee, Daniel is a hard working student, except his school is in Costa Rica. He teamed up with Sportcar Motion to put together one of the baddest K20Z3 powered CRZ out there. Daniel competed in the Pro Street Class this year, garnering a third place in the Pro class road circuit and fourth in the dyno portion with a 194hp pull.

1993 Honda Civic DX
Name:Tony Jackson
Class: Pro Street Class

Can you believe that this 1993 Honda Civic DX was Tony's commuter car? The hatchback's humble beginnings started with an LS motor from an Integra and snowballed itself into FF 5 Battle's Pro Street Class. Despite the car's lack of power with 179hp and 123lb-torque, Tony was able to pilot the car to 3rd place in the road course portion of his class.

2002 Acura RSX Type S
Name:Ken Suen
Class: Pro Street Class

Bringing Sportcar Motion's shop car to the table is Ken Suen. They spared no expense for this DC5 with a K20Z3 head and K24Z3 bottom-end. Ken is another returning driver from last year's FF Battle, but instead of his 2008 Honda Civic SI he drove this RSX into second place on the track. Known for late braking and carrying heavy corner speed, Ken is a weapon on the track no matter what he is piloting. During the dyno challenge the DC5 pulled 275hp and 186lb-ft of torque.

2002 Honda Civic SI
Name:Phil Nguyen
Class:Street Class

Phil Nguyen brings a unique chassis to the battlefield, a 2002 Honda Civic SI. His EP3 has a daily diet of E85. Phil went with a K24 block and K20 head. It's not the most popular Civic generaton to mod, but winning first place in the dyno challenge at 259hp/192lb-ft of torque and clocking the second fastest time at the track in the street class is a true testament of the potential for any Honda.

2007 Acura CSX Type S
Name:Pradana "Ping" Wilianto
Class:Street Class

While it may look like a Honda Civic, Pradana aka "Ping's" white sedan is actually an Acura CSX Type-S that comes from the Canadian market. Ping turned to Evasive Motorsports and Sportcar Motion to bring the perfect daily driver/ track warrior together. The car retains all its interior bits, but fitted with all the right bolt-ons to clock in the fastest time in his class. During the dyno challenge Ping's Civic was measured at 221hp and 151lb-ft of torque.

2002 Acura RSX Type S
Name:Jose Guzman
Class:Street Class

Just like the case of Jason Kaplan, Jose Guzman's Acura RSX started as a daily driver, but has evolved into track beast you see. Jason teamed with his friends at Circuit Dreams to build a naturally aspirated monster K24 that placed second on the dyno in the Street class.Guzman's RSX nailed an impressive 231hp and 169lb-ft of torque during our dyno day challenge.

1990 Honda Civic SI
Name:Jason "Katman" Kaplan
Class:Street Class

Jason Kaplan is another returning competitor with his 1990 Honda Civic SI hatchback. He returns this year with the same K20Z1 motor, but with 10 extra ponies. Since 1999, Jason has been perfecting his craft as a track racer. The two things he wanted to accomplish this year were to be faster and not blow his engine like he did twice at Chuckwalla Raceway, CA in months past. During the dyno challenge Jason's Civic made 221hp and 153lb-ft of torque.

2007 Honda Civic SI
Name:Jason Lee
Class:Street Class

Jason Lee is a true example of the young modern day racer. If he's not hitting the books at school, he's probably out on the track in his 2007 Honda Civic SI. Cars and track days aren't exactly budget hobbies, so you can imagine how much dedication Jason puts into his daily driver. We see a bright future ahead of Jason. His motor made a healthy 217hp and 148lb-ft of torque.

1995 Honda Civic DX
Name:Kristian Wong
Class:Street Class

The mystical bond between man and machine will probably never be deciphered. Kristian Wong's 1995 Honda Civic DX has seen better days. He even admits that it's a piece of shit. But the important thing about his car and any car you buy is that it's still fun to drive. How many cars can take the abuse of a track day, be great at the gas pump, and still put a smile on your face? Not many. It's all about having fun. Kristian's car made 124hp and 105lb-ft of torque.
