2001 Acura NSX - Turbo Neck Breaker

The hill climbers at LoveFab pull 500hp from Alex Farrington's forced inducted sports car

When the NSX was introduced in the early 1990s, it had all the makings of an absolute dream machine. The low slung, mid-engine, RWD sports car held its own against others that cost double, sometimes triple the value of the NSX, even with dealer inflated pricing that ran rampant throughout the US. Years later, the car still holds a special place in the hearts of gear-heads worldwide and is still very capable on a road course.

Still, by today's standards, the Acura NSX falls short in the power department. Not surprising when you consider the 20-plus years under its belt, many of which didn't include any form of engine upgrade from Honda. To address this deficiency, many owners opt for forced induction to help bring the car up to speed (so to speak).

Alex Farrington had already owned a few Acura NSX's when he picked up this 2001 model. Looking beyond naturally aspirated upgrades and even supercharged power, he contacted LoveFab in search of turbocharged bliss.

Well known for their exceptionally effective NSX turbo components, as well as some trips up Pikes Peak, LoveFab installed a Precision T4 snail, their signature exhaust manifolds, and fabricated the charge piping that would connect to a Precision intercooler. The result of the fancy upgrades equates to over 500 lethal horsepower.

Subtlety was the goal with the exterior and to the untrained eye, Alex's Acura NSX looks like any other, though sporting a set of black wheels. A closer look reveals a Downforce carbon fiber hood, Wings West lip and sideskirts and Taitec NSX-R style rear wing. The aforementioned wheels are actually lightweight cast magnesium rollers to help reduce un-sprung weight.

Though the price of an Acura NSX today is a fraction of what it was brand new, it still hovers high enough to weed out the average Honda enthusiast. Those who can afford to own a piece of Honda history today have plenty of choices to add more power to the C-series heart. In Alex Farrington's eyes, turbocharging was the right choice and the 500 ponies that gallop just behind his seat confirm that.
