Bulletproof Automotive adds JDM flavor to this turbocharged Nissan 370Z

Sep 16, 2015

Since his childhood, Jason Gale has attended car shows, mostly of the hot rod or mini-truck genres. It wasn't until the early '90s when he started his journey in the Japanese sport compact scene and got his hands on an '87 Honda CR-X Si. He did what any normal enthusiast would do—lower it, install a stereo, and put sportier 15-inch wheels on the car, which at the time was a big deal. A '95 Civic hatch was his next project. He followed the recipe of his previous build, but this time delved into engine bolt-ons and custom wheels, which led to his first taste of entering car shows. Twenty-five years have passed since then, and Jason's been in and out of the scene. Through the years, he's always held a great appreciation of builders who pay close attention to the finer details on their project cars, and it came to a point where he became inspired to build another car for himself; hence this Nissan 370Z.

Jason knew from the get-go that he wasn't going to leave any aspect of the car untouched, nor skimp and use cheap parts. So the first order of business was adding more power to the VQ37VHR. With extremely harsh winters in Canada, the Z34 was garaged during the cold season as Jason spent his nights and weekends installing a Precision turbo kit, which eventually would be good for 500+hp on pump gas. When it came to the rest of the build, he looked to Bulletproof Automotive. The SoCal-based tuner has a long track record of great work and exceptional builds, not to mention it imports some of the hardest-to-find JDM parts. Jason's Z was shipped to Los Angeles where it received nothing but the best, including WP Pro brakes, M7 coilovers, and Work Meister wheels. JDM aficionados will be able to appreciate the carbon-fiber Varis aero, Top Secret strut brace (allegedly only three exist in the world), and Takata seats. Bulletproof Automotive finished its magic by painting the body a gorgeous Lexus Ultrasonic Blue Mica color.

Jason has built one of the sexiest and most complete Z34s we've seen in the past five years, and today he's passing on his love for cars to his 5-year-old son. "I have fun explaining to him how everything works," he smiled. "We also like to flip through Super Street together and look at the cool cars. He tells me what he likes and how he's going to build his car one day when he's older." Many trends and styles may have changed since Jason started building Hondas 25 years ago, but one thing is for certain—people like him are securing the future of the JDM tuning scene. He's a role model to his son and a role model to us!

Nothing To Lose

For the past 15 years, Bulletproof Automotive has been supplying high-end parts from Japan, such as Varis, JUN, and Top Secret. The company has also been a specialty import/export automotive dealership—it can get you that R32 Skyline or Hakosuka you've always dreamed of. While its main HQ is in Los Angeles, Bulletproof Automotive has expanded its business to Yokohama, Japan and Thailand. If you think JDM is all it does, the company has recently pushed into the Tesla tuning market under its new Unplugged Performance division. Unplugged will be offering customers a catalog of interior, suspension, and carbon-fiber aero for the electric Tesla.

There isn't any word on price, but it's probably safe to assume commissioning a one-off Ferrari is expensive. Very expensive.
