It feels good to be back in the Los Angeles Convention Center for a car show! To be honest, it's probably been close to 10 years since we've attended a show here (think Hot Import Nights days), but today, AutoCon has packed more than 300 cars into this fine venue right in the heart of downtown LA.
Having only walked the show floors for a few minutes, there is lots of today's best enthusiast-built street and show cars here, what popped out right away was this throwback Veilside RX-7. Say what?! That's right, our friends from DTM Autobody have been working on bringing this RX-7 back to life, which before was just sitting in the back of their shop for months. Under the hood is a built three-rotor, while the interior is also done head-to-toe in red, plus it has all the right chassis upgrades, for example the StopTech brakes. But the exterior is what trips us out most. It's been, let's say ten years since we've seen a Veilside-kitted RX-7 in person (maybe Turbo Magazine 2006?). Most kids will know the kit from the Fast & Furiuos 3: Tokyo Drift, as actor Sung Kang drove it in the movie.
While it might be too over-the-top for today's scene, it's a pretty badass build, especially if you know the roots of this kit and from a legendary Japanese body kit company like Veilside. Props to DTM Autobody and stay tuned for more rides from AutoCon 2016!
