2005 Honda S2000 - Dream Big

Realizing his college dreams, and he's just getting started

Owning a S2000 has been a dream for many of us since they started arriving at Honda dealerships in '99. Its high-output four-cylinder engine allowed you to rev up to 8,200 RPM (9,000 RPM if you had the 2.0-liter AP1!). Put that together with phenomenal handling thanks to things like a 50:50 weight ratio, plus a precise six-speed gearbox, and it's no wonder the roadster won the hearts of many driving enthusiasts from around the world. It comes as no surprise its market value has held its worth despite production ending almost a decade ago. In some instances, the price of a used S2K has climbed over the last couple of years, meaning your dream of owning a clean one is becoming more difficult and more expensive. Isaac Koduah from Virginia was well aware of the S2000's appeal, but wasn't going to let anything get in the way of owning his dream car. He promised himself an S2000 would be his first big-ticket item he'd buy as soon as he graduated college. Fast forward several years and after much sacrifice and hard work, he finished school and had saved up enough money to pick up this '05 S2000.

Excited and motivated, it didn't take long for Isaac to start modifying his new project car with a Club Racer front lip and TEIN lowering springs. Upgrading the performance under the hood came next. If you've ever driven an S2000, you'll know torque is a bit lacking, even with the slightly larger 2.2L displacement of the AP2. After chatting with a local performance shop, Isaac decided to go the way of forced induction, boosting his F22C with a PTUNING turbo kit. With components like a Garrett GTX3076R turbo, 3-inch downpipe, equal-length V-band manifold, and 4-inch intake, Isaac now has the help of approximately 450whp and 320 lb-ft of torque, more than enough to forget about any woes of feeling underpowered.

Three years had passed and Isaac was at a crossroads as he was beginning to feel a little bored with his beloved S2000. Was it time to part ways and sell it? After test driving and considering a few other cars, he decided there simply wasn't anything out there that would make him as happy as his S2000. This realization became a turning point for Isaac, which also marked the day when he decided to go all-out on the exterior styling with a Powerhouse Amuse GT1 widebody.

"I wanted the best of the best," Isaac explained while debating which widebody conversion to go with, either the J's Racing or Powerhouse Amuse. Once he gathered that the styling of Amuse aligned more with his tastes, he pulled the trigger and contacted Bulletproof Automotive for the kit. After six month wait, Isaac took delivery of the elaborate 30-piece widebody kit designed and developed through a collaboration by Polyphony Digital.

Paying tribute to the late founder of Amuse, Hideki Tanabe, Isaac opted to paint his S2000 from its original Suzuka blue to Alpine white - an OE BMW color, which is also a similar shade of white used on the original GT1 demo vehicle. Pressed Graphite Volk Racing TE37SL wheels were waiting to be fitted as soon as the car returned from body and paint. Lastly, to complete the makeover, a Voltex GT wing and Amuse-style carbon-fiber hardtop from Rockstar Garage were thrown into the mix.

Even though Isaac's AP2 is one of the cleanest we've seen, he still has a lot planned to bring it up to his standards, for example, completing a shaved and wire tucked engine bay along with a cleaner turbo setup. Showcasing his S2000 at SEMA is his next dream, and if building this S2000 has taught us anything, it's that Isaac is a man of his word who can make dreams a reality.
