Tuner Evo SoCal '19 Spotlight: 1996 Honda Civic

Street, show, and race all mixed into an EJ hatch with plenty of history

For years, Teddy Timoteo was known for piloting a Championship White, B-series ITR-powered EJ hatchback, which showed up in the pages of Super Street back in 2013. The car had seen some changes here and there, but eventually went off to a new owner. In its place is this Desert Sage Metallic 6th gen. that caught our attention and also took home top honors in its class during Tuner Evo's 2019 Anaheim tour stop.

Teddy's new hatch build has some history, having been owned previously by another SS alumnus back in 2013 and long before that, it graced the pages of Honda Tuning back in 2010. Once he took ownership, Teddy's began making changes inside and out, adding and subtracting parts in order to make it his own.

On the outside, the Sergeant rear diffuser and Zeal Type 1 spoiler make up the rear section, while First Molding's vented carbon hood and an authentic Mugen front lip take care of the front half. That EJ's flanks carry color matched moldings and OEM side skirts with Spoon carbon fiber side mirrors breaking things up a bit. Volk CE28Ns fill the gaps, and up front partially cover 4-pot Endless calipers.

Under the hood is where Teddy focused on making the most changes that, once the hood is pulled open, will have you staring at a set of Jenvey ITBs. Poke around a little further and you'll find a custom hard line that connects the Visteon C&R radiator to a custom Wisecraft swirl pot topped off with a Chasing J's cap. Peek below those ITBs that jut forward and you'll notice an XRP line that leads to a Meziere electric water pump set up.

Plop down behind the suede Momo tiller and Spoon horn button combo and you'll no doubt notice the white-faced SARD Stack display with carbon fiber surround that's evicted all signs of the factory gauge cluster. A Safety 21 eight-point cage surrounds a set of Zeal carbon-Kevlar seats and carries over into the bare rear interior.

Of the Hondas on display at Tuner Evo Anaheim, some veered toward street car status while others were full blown show cars. Teddy's EJ, however, sits comfortably somewhere in the middle, but also carries a proper formula for a track day terror, and also continues the storyline of this Civic with quite a bit of history that refuses to grow old.
