The Geneva Motor Show is in full swing right now, and among the debuts and concepts German tuning house Brabus has unveiled its 800 Widestar, a goosed and otherwise upgraded version of the Mercedes AMG G 63 luxury SUV. The premium off roader gets a new look inside and out, but the beating heart of the reimagined beast – the platform’s M177 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 – gets a good bit of love as well.

Engineers developed the Brabus 800 PowerXtra + tuning level specifically for the G-wagen’s mill, a set of modifications that involves replacing the two production turbos with two reconfigured ones that have larger compressor units and core assemblies modified with reinforced axial bearings, the snails capable of producing a maximum boost pressure of 23psi. Brabus also recalibrated the SUV’s ECU; an auxiliary control unit provides injection, boost pressure control and ignition with special mapping. Brabus finishes power mods with a stainless-steel sport exhaust (which also fits stock G 63 AMG models), a system that not only optimizes performance but also features integrated sound management via actively controlled flaps, allowing the driver to choose between the subtle "Coming Home“ mode and the distinct V-8 sound of "Sport" mode.

The tuned G 63 picks up 212hp and 111 lb.-ft. of torque, taking its rated output to 789hp (which is where the “800” comes from in the SUV’s name) and 737 lb.-ft. of torque at a low 3,600 rpm. The high-end rolling box can hit 62mph in 4.1 seconds, and the nine-speed automatic transmission can be shifted manually with optional ergonomic Brabus Race aluminum paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

Brabus mates the burliness under hood with a beefier, wider-looking G 63 on 23-inch rims. Fender flares at the front and rear add ten centimeters (4 inches) to the width, while their integrated LEDs illuminate the running boards between the flares as soon as a door handle is pulled or the central locking system is activated. The Brabus logos in the fender attachments behind the front flares light up at the same time.

There’s lots of room under those flares for a variety of rollers, and Brabus offers a broad range of tailor-made wheel/tire combinations with diameters from 20 to 23 inches. The most exclusive option for the Widestar version features 23-inch Monoblock "Platinum Edition" forged wheels; the 11Jx23-inch sized wheels come in four different designs. On the show car, the latest variant of Brabus’s Monoblock F cross-spoke wheel were on display for the first time; the forged Monoblock F "Black Platinum Special Edition" alloys are painted high-gloss black and are fitted with a "Black Platinum" badge on the outer flange.

The Widestar body mods continue with a redesigned fascia at the front and rear. The front element is fitted with large, ostensibly functional air intakes, and auxiliary LED lights under the ducts. Brabus also offers a carbon hood attachment and a Branding Package with illuminated Brabus logo for the radiator grille and additional elements on the rear end and the sides of the off-roader. For the roof, the tuners have a Power Beams auxiliary LED light unit and rear wing.

The rear features a fascia with stylized skid plate and naked-carbon spare wheel cover with Brabus logo. In addition, all chrome parts on the show car were painted in vehicle color and the brake calipers and the Brabus logo in the radiator grille were matched to the color of the interior appointments with a special hue.

Brabus will customize your AMG G 63’s cabin, too; the company’s upholstery shop offers interior appointments in Mastik leather and Alcantara in an “endless” choice of colors; the same is true for the many variants of noble-wood and carbon inlays, which can also be manufactured in a host of different colors and designs. The Brabus 800 Widestar at the Geneva Motor Show features a cuoio-colored all-leather interior with black piping to contrast with the black paintwork. The leather features perforations and "Rising Diamond" quilting on the seat center sections. The Starry Sky headliner is made of black Alcantara, and the color of its hundreds of glass fiber optics changes in sync with the ambient lighting of the interior. In addition, gimbaled LED reading lights were integrated into the headliner for the rear passengers. Finally, the look is finished with Brabus aluminum pedals and door-lock pins, as well as the stainless scuff plates with backlit logos.
