Lego Speed Champions Sets

Racers from Ferrari, McLaren, and Porsche come in our favorite colored plastic blocks.

For those of you who already know about Lego’s Speed Champions cars and play sets, yes, we are really late discovering these awesome little build-ables. For those who don’t know or could care less, you might ask why ostensible adults (and that’s debatable) are still messing with toys – to which we say, don’t judge us, and kindly remove that stick from up your butt.

Because, oh my god, guys – these things are SO DAMN COOL.

Individual cars include the Ferrari LaFerrari (product no. 75899) and 458 Italia GT2 (product no. 75908), McLaren P1 (product no. 75909), and Porsche 918 Spyder (product no. 75910). Multi-function play sets consist of the McLaren Mercedes Pit Stop (product no. 75911, which comes with ’14 F1 entry MP4-29), Porsche 911 GT Finish Line (product no. 75912, which comes with two 911), and F14 T & Scuderia Ferrari Truck (product no. 75913).

All of the car kits are “race-ready” and come with a mini-figure and other accessories (tools, wheel trims, etc.) The multi-function play sets are a lot more elaborate, supporting cars with a host of cool features and more mini-figures (the team truck for Ferrari F1 comes with a whopping six!) Everything from the Speed Champions Sets lineup rocks details from the real thing, and like most Legos it appears as though you can tear down and rebuild them anyway you want.

In addition to a plethora of information, visitors to the Speed Champions website can get a primer on all three car brands, play the online game, and check out videos – some in-car – of the Lego analogs and the actual cars (the cars are drift-able in the animated videos – score!) Obviously it’s way too late to recall our Christmas list, but it’s never too late to do something nice for ourselves – like cruise to the local Toys R Us and pick up the McLaren Mercedes Pit Stop.
