The new Mercedes-AMG GT3 racer has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring. Finished in the same gray and yellow paint scheme as the car shown at the Geneva auto show in February, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 racer sounds fantastic as it laps the track in this video.
While the production Mercedes-AMG GT street car is powered by a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 making 456 hp or 503 hp, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 racer uses the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 from the discontinued Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. That engine made as much as 622 hp and 468-lb-ft in the SLS AMG Black Series. A six-speed sequential transaxle is mounted out back.
In addition to the naturally aspirated engine, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 features a wide-body kit with upgraded aerodynamics, including larger air intakes and a large rear wing. Much of the bodywork is constructed of lightweight carbon fiber, including the hood, doors, front wing, side skirts, diffuser, rear aerofoil, and deck lid.
