Jeremy Says: I went to a Z car show in the spring of 2007 in Southern California and simply loved the classic, first-generation Z car: the 240Z. After the car show, I got online and started looking for a 240Z to call my own. After a few months of searching, I found this ’72 Z in really rough shape — it was a bit of a rust bucket and needed an engine swap. Originally, I was going to swap the KA24DE into my ’69 Datsun 2000 that Blacktrax had already prepared, but then the plan changed. Instead of the ’69 Datsun 2000 getting the engine swap, it was the 240Z. Jei, the owner of Blacktrax, told me the 240Z was going to be underpowered, so the decision was made to go turbo. After the engine swap and turbo installation, I was extremely happy — the car is simply a rocket! After the engine swap was done, the car needed a paint job, so I decided to go with the BRE-style paint scheme: two-tone blue and white with racing stripes on the fenders, with all the paint and body work done by Shadow Images. This is a great Datsun classic with modern technology, and this is why I love to drive it anywhere — on the streets or on the track.
We Say: The 240Z is an iconic classic Japanese sports car, and it’s great to see how many enthusiasts still enjoy building and restoring these cars. Jeremy’s choice of paint scheme is pretty unique, as well, a real throwback to the racing classics of Brock Racing Enterprises, and we like the choice to go turbo KA instead of the more common SR20 or RB route.
