One of the premier games to debut with the PS3 is Resistance: Fall of Man from the stellar development team at Insomniac Games. Insomniac is known for their great action series Ratchet and Clank, and they bring their technical expertise and creativity to Resistance: Fall of Man. The twist in this case is that it takes place in an alternate 20th-century where a species of unknown origins, called Chimera, are taking over the world by infecting all life forms with a virus that mutates life forms into more Chimera. Gamers play as U.S. Army Ranger Sgt. Nathan Hale, part of the last U.S. and British troops making a last stand to try and wipe the Chimera from the Earth before everything and everyone are completely taken over and destroyed.
Resistance: Fall of Man was already playing on PS3 hardware at this year's E3 convention, and showed-off some impressive gameplay and the awesome power of the PS3. The game looks pristine with incredibly detailed, interactive environments that include huge battlefields and enormous military command centers. Onscreen action was breathtaking as bullets, bombs, smoke and fire were going off in all directions as 32 players went at it full bore with no skips, jumps or drags. The huge processing power combined with the new Blu-ray technology allows for more visual and sound effects to really enhance and intensify the insanity of the huge combat environments. A.I. characters are frighteningly realistic with enemies engaging a gamer's own A.I. teammates in some side battle action while gamers take on their own legion of Chimera. Along with the single player campaign, gamers can hook up with a friend for a co-op game, more friends for some split-screen multiplayer action or online for even more options. Insomniac Games takes a big leap into the already crowded, first-person shooter genre, but with their track record of excellent titles, and the outstanding gameplay already shown, Resistance: Fall of Man is a great way to break in the new PS3 this holiday season.
