No matter how many new video game genres come out, racing games remain at the top of bestselling lists year after year. With the release of three next-gen gaming systems in the last two years, racing games are at the head of the pack with brand new titles and a few familiar favorites coming in the next few months. Race games are easy to gauge when it comes to new technologies because as soon as gamers get behind the wheel, it's easy to see how the car handles, reacts and looks on the track against other drivers. MotorStorm, by Sony, is a new title for the PS3 that takes action and destruction to the next level with some extreme racing where crossing the finish line first is a matter of survival.

It's time to gather in the fictitious desert of Monument Valley for the MotorStorm Festival where anyone with a vehicle and some guts can test their skills against a wide variety of competitors. Racing fanatics on everything from motorcyles to big 4-wheel-drive trucks will battle their way to victory on the outstanding looking off-road courses featured in the game. The PS3's new A.I. engine ups the ante for gamers by having A.I. opponents driving, acting and reacting to race situations in a realistic way.

If gamers start slamming their way to the finish line then count on opponents to fight back just as aggressively as the A.I. amps up to take on the challenge gamers are dishing out. Not only that, but opponents are always looking for the best and quickest way to the finish line, so keep an eye on other racers so you don't get left behind. All of the action occurs in real time-no pre-rendered screens here. Each of the tracks keep the damage that the vehicles dish out as they slice through the desert, so each lap is a different experience based on the wear and tear racers do to the tracks.

To go along with the action are crash cams around the course for hot replays, plus the depth-of-field and motion-blur effects add that extra punch for some sweet looking gameplay. MotorStorm has a good mixture of chaos, violence and racing to give gamers more to look forward to than standard "around the track" racing.

Earlier this year, Subaru announced the WRX STI would get a 5-horsepower boost for 2019. Subaru’s latest special edition STI, however, comes with a much less underwhelming boost in power. It’s called the WRX STI TC 380, and
