The Wii's success as the console for "everyone" has definitely worked in Nintendo's favor and many of the first games released seem to follow a pattern of super-ease of use, but not much depth. Not everyone who bought a Wii is a casual gamer, and many have wondered if the Wii will bring out games for more hardcore gamers. As the fall season arrives, the game line-up for the Wii does show a wider variety of games including a brand new Resident Evil game exclusively for this console. Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is an all-new title in the franchise that long-time fans should love as Capcom takes us back to reveal the story behind the infamous Umbrella Corporation.

Although this is a brand-new storyline, familiar Resident Evil characters and locations from RE O, 1, 2, and 3 are used right along with brand new locations like inside Umbrella's stronghold. The game is done in first-person point of view, and as expected, the Wii-mote is an integral part of the gameplay, mostly used as a gun throughout the game. The Umbrella Chronicles is more action oriented than the normal survival horror game, and many more weapons are available to use. Along with the usual small weapons like various pistols, grenades and knives, The Umbrella Chronicles also brings in the heavy-duty artillery like submachine guns and rocket launchers, which is always good for downing enemies and causing massive damage.

At times, getting to the end of a favorite game is a let down as it's common to want more game, yet not the same game all over again. Capcom understands, and The Umbrella Chronicles introduces interactive pathways to give gamers a choice of various routes to take throughout the game. This feature adds just the right amount of variety so that there are great replay possibilities by going back and choosing different options. It's been awhile since fans have gotten a Resident Evil fix, and Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles is a great way to spend the time until Resident Evil 5 drops some time in 2008.
