One of the greatest aspects of playing video games is getting to be the hero and save the universe from evil rulers and their nefarious plots to destroy mankind. On the other hand, it can get boring playing the same basic plot line game after game, so for once, instead of saving the world, why not destroy it? Who says being an evil ruler is all doom and gloom? Don't listen to all that negative hype about bad guys, instead, come on over to the dark side by bashing the innocents and destroying enemies in Codemasters' latest action real-time strategy game, Overlord.
Becoming the Overlord is hard work, but luckily all the hard stuff is done by devilish little minions who live and die at a gamer's command. Still, gamers must start off small with only a few followers to do the evil bidding, but with a steady display of dastardly acts, the powers begin to grow as does the number of minions they can control to accomplish any number of devilish deeds. As the Overlord's powers grow, his physical body also grows in size and strength, and his armor and weapons change to suit his new status too.
Gamers have the task of not only building up a huge army of minions, but also must take care of the Overlord's home base called The Dark Tower. Like the Overlord in the beginning of the game, the Dark Tower is also in ruins, and gamers must bring it back to its former glory. Inside the Tower are other gameplay areas including: The Forge, where the minions construct the armor and weapons; the Dungeon, to hold enemies; and the Private Quarters, to get away from the stresses of world domination. It is here that the Overlord can take some quality time to hang out with his mistress, count his hordes of ill-gotten treasure, or work on plans for the continuing upgrades to the Tower. Mixed into all the evil doing is a twisted sense of humor that keeps the game from taking itself seriously and lets gamers have a guilt-free trip into the dark side of mayhem and world domination.
