It doesn't seem like it's been five years since Ratchet and Clank debuted on the PS2, but it has, and Insomniac's great action-adventure series is back for the fifth time, making the leap onto the PS3. Longtime fans of the Ratchet and Clank series are rewarded with another outstanding title that sends gamers on another epic adventure around an all-new galaxy to save the world one more time from ultimate annihilation.

In certain ways, it sounds like a rehash of previous titles, but fans of the series know that the developers at Insomniac never put out a half-assed game, and have given gamers a brand new action-adventure title with all the bells and whistles the PS3 can provide. Despite the great success of their first PS3 title, Resistance: Fall of Man, developers say they've already overhauled their PS3 engine for Ratchet and Clank. They have pulled out all the stops to create vibrant worlds that are teeming with an abundance of life forms, alien races, and awesome new challenges for Ratchet and Clank to overcome. Ratchet comes fully loaded with a brand new arsenal of weapons like the Tornado Launcher, Plasma Beasts, Fusion grenades and the totally far-out Groovitron which forces enemies to stop attacking and start dancing uncontrollably to some sweet '70s disco hits, disco ball included.

Like previous additions, weapons can be upgraded and customized; Ratchet's armor is upgradeable as well. Ratchet's sidekick Clank returns to the game as a full-fledged sidekick and playable character bringing the original team back together again. Besides the awesome weapons, Ratchet and Clank still bust out the ultimate in gadgets to help them defy gravity, get through tough terrain and cover long distances in cool new ways. In what seems to be the trend in exclusive PS3 games, there is some use of the Sixaxis controller to control firepower, to maneuver around or fly and to solve puzzles. The use is limited to special gadgets or certain weapons, and thankfully, the main controls of the games stick to the traditional Ratchet and Clank setup. Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction goes back to Ratchet and Clank's action-adventure roots to bring gamers another terrific high-octane, explosion-filled, action-packed game we've all come to expect, and remember: don't let the animation fool you-this game is more grown-up than it looks.
