Audi has just announced pricing for the 2014 Audi SQ5, the fastest model yet in its expanding Q5 lineup.
The SQ5 will start at $52,795 (including the $895 destination fee) and will be rolling into Audi
dealerships later this summer.
Equipped with the most powerful version of Audi's 3.0-liter TFSI direct-injection V6 engine yet, the
supercharged SQ5 puts out 354 hp and 347 lb/ft and goes from 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, according to Audi.
The current top-of-the-line Q5 Prestige also features a version of 3.0-liter V6, but with 272 hp and 295
lb/ft and a 0-60 time of 6.0 seconds. The SQ5 also shows up the Q5 Prestige with the ability to reach a
top speed of 155 mph compared to 130 mph. Power is routed to the wheels through an eight-speed
automatic transmission and Audi's signature quattro all-wheel drive system.
Helping aid overall driving dynamics is a roof rack detection system that links directly to the SQ5's
electronic stability control (ESC) control unit. When the crossbars are installed a signal is sent adjusting
driving dynamics according to the vehicle's center of gravity. But when the crossbars aren't installed the
ESC adjusts for more sporty driving abilities.
Although performance and styling vary from the current Q5 Prestige, technology stays roughly the same.
Standard features include Audi advanced key, while additional options are available such as Audi side
assist, adaptive cruise control, Bang & Olufsen Sound System and Audi Connect with MMI Navigation.
Most of the non-standard items are available in either the Premium plus models or as an additional
Bringing this new variant aboard wouldn't be complete without adding several styling cues that
differentiate it from the current lineup. This comes in the form of S model signature elements (used for
the first time on the Q model lineup) including front and rear bumpers, Platinum Gray grille and diffuser,
aluminum exterior mirror housing and quad exhaust tips. Aluminum roof rails sit atop the sloped roof.
Also standard on the SQ5 are 20-inch wheels (21s are also offered), which are a step up from the Q5
Prestige, which comes standard with 19-inch wheels.
Standard on both this model and the current Q5 is a take on the Audi single frame grille plus adaptive
The interior of the SQ5 brings the exterior sportiness inside with a three-spoke multifunction flat-
bottom steering wheel with alu-optic shift paddles and contrasting stitching. The instruments also
feature gray faces with white needles, and there are aluminum accents throughout the cabin. Alcantara
accented seating is optional.
The 2014 Audi SQ5 is only couple hundred dollars higher than the starting price of the Q5 Prestige.
Given the added performance and S model styling the $52,795 price tag seems well worth it.
