Volvo XC60 as Art

The Volvo XC60 was the recent subject of a massive public art project. Held at the Central Station in Zurich, Switzerland, the Volvo started off white but was transformed into works of art.

The theme of the event was "Designed Around You," where the car was placed in front of a white canvas and turned into various themed interpretations. Several international artists were asked to create their own Volvo project, including:

German 3-D graffiti artist DAIM created bright colors and fun shapes centered around a pink star.

Polish street artists Etam Cru designed a wooden soapbox racer, painting the car to resemble part of the illustration on the wall behind it.

Swiss graphic designer Eggenschwiler started with a black background, covering it in rich gold before adding bright colors and symbols as well as word fragments to the background.

Lexr & Evoke from Canada used the XC60 as a part of their love story between a forest creature and her admirer. The installation encompassed a tree stump, wood shavings, paper sculptures and multicolored paint that formed the forest environment.

Daniel Man from Germany started by creating a yellow background and car, then covered the Volvo in a cardboard to create a protective shell. When he unwrapped the car it revealed the golden XC60.

French-American duo Koralie & Supakitch created a cloud effect, dressing the car is white clouds and surrounding it with blue sky and rainbows.

This event was organized by Volvo Cars to show fans and potential buyers that Volvo is not only a safe brand but it can also, as Anouk Poelmann from Volvo Car Switzerland explained: "With the Art Session we want to demonstrate that Volvo Cars is a creative and innovative brand which places people at its heart. This unique art happening also enables us to reach new potential customers who hadn't considered Volvo previously."

This is the third consecutive event by Volvo and photographer Francesco Carrozzini captured images that will be published in a book later this year. Additionally, there are several videos to view (below) that capture the unique process each artist went through to transform their Volvo XC60.
