The Mazda 3 is in its tenth year of production with the newest third generation going on sale this fall in the US. The first generation (2003-09) worked to change the consumer's perception of sport compact cars by focusing on sporty and visually appealing characteristics. Over two million first gens (2003-09) sold. And the second generation (2010-13) further pursued the idea behind safety and driver enjoyment with not only introducing Skyactiv Technology but also receiving the highest five-star rating from the Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Progam) along with a Top Safety Pick by the Institute for Highway Safety. Currently, over 3.5 million Mazda3s have been sold in more than 120 countries worldwide.
Some of the new safety systems included on the Mazda3 are: Lane Departure Warning System, Forward Obstruction Warning, Mazda Radar Cruise Control and Smart City Brake Support. All of these are under the umbrella of i-Activsense, which uses devices such as milliwave radars and cameras to help in accident avoidance.
"We are proud to mark 10 years of the Mazda3's success with the global debut of the next-generation vehicle," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO). "There is no doubt that the all-new Mazda3 arrives with all-new expectations. Yet as its track record has shown, we look forward to not only meeting those expectations, but exceeding them in the way only Mazda can."
