Brabus. Mention that word and Mercedes-Benz owners will flock to find out more about the German tuner's latest aftermarket offering. Owners of the 2014 S550 or S63 AMG hold onto your leather trimmed steering wheels because Brabus has just released a power and performance package for your luxury V8 Biturbo Benz.
For S550 owners, a special BRABUS B50 - 520 PowerXtra CGI performance kit increases power an additional 65hp. This is possible through precise ECU injection and ignition mapping as well as a moderate increase in boost pressure. The final result is a jump from 455hp (449bhp) to 520hp (512bhp) while torque increases to 604lb-ft. On the street, this equates to a claimed 0-62mph sprint in 4.2sec. The Brabus Vmax unit also allows you to limit top speed to three levels: 155, 168 or 186mph.
Available for the S63 AMG owner is the BRABUS B63 - 650 PowerXtra CGI kit, which provides up to a claimed 145hp (143bhp) of additional horsepower. The result increases power to 650hp (641bhp) as compared to the stock 585hp (576bhp) with peak torque improving from 516 lb-ft to 737 lb-ft available between 2,250 and 3,750rpm.
Available for both S-Class models is a sport exhaust system with a controlled butterfly valve. The note from this exhaust changes with the push of a button. "Coming Home" mode creates a more discrete sound, while the "Sport" mode gives a throatier note for spirited drives outside of the neighborhood.
For those interested in peak performance and running a twin turbo S63 AMG engine, a BRABUS B63S - 730 high-performance kit is also available. It provides further horsepower in addition to other engine and performance modifications. Included in the package is a Brabus Gold Heat Reflection system for the intake and charge-air pipes along with two Brabus turbos and a larger compressor unit (for higher boost pressure) that replace the two production turbos. A low-temp water radiator then improves the cooling system. A free-flow exhaust system with metal catalysts and 3-in thick downpipes aslo allows the engine to breathe better. Brabus engine management system mapping is also included.
All of this gives your Benz 730hp (720bhp) at 5,300rpm while peak torque is electronically limited to 785 lb-ft available between 1,750 and 5,000rpm. Top speed is electronically limited to 202mph.
Balancing out more power with increased aero and style is a body conversion kit. This includes components manufactured from PUR plastics and carbon fiber for decreased drag and negative lift, improved high-speed stability and of course head-turning looks.
Completing the exterior are three different wheel packages. 19, 20 or 21-in wheels are available in the forged and mirror-polished "Platinum edition' Monoblock VI or the Monoblock F cross-spoke design. With the wheels comes a lower ride height too compliments of AIRMATIC or Active Body Control suspension, which drops the S-Class about 0.6-in.
For the interior, Brabus features options ranging from scuff plates with the Brabus logoa to fine Brabus leather crafted from both soft and durable Mastik leather and Alcantara. A multimedia system is also offered as an optional interior upgrade.
All of this is backed by a Tuning Warranty of three years and up to 62,000 miles. Pricing is scheduled to be announced in the next couple of months.
For those who would like to see the package in person, it will be on display at the 2013 IAA International Auto Show in Frankfurt/Main, Germany. For owners of older S-Class models, Brabus may have a package for you as well.
