- Bentley SUV to go on sale in 2016
- Fourth model line to be built in Crewe, UK
- Claimed to become the most luxurious and powerful SUV on market
- MSRP speculation in the $200,000 to $250,000 range
Range Rover, Porsche and BMW have all seen success within the performance-luxury Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) market. Bentley now wants a slice of that pie and recently made its step into this niche official. Adding to its line of luxury sedans and coupes, the British marque will develop its first fourth model line, an SUV, to go on sale in 2016.
The Bentley SUV will be built in Crewe, England with what is expected to be an extreme focus on luxury. Performance will of course be a factor as well. Bentley is claiming its SUV will be the most powerful and luxurious SUV on the market. So what will it cost?
According to Motor Trend speculation in a recent news post, “Considering the Bentley Continental GT lineup starts just under $200,000, expect the Bentley’s base price to be at least that much, given how much of a premium many are willing to pay for SUVs.”
The Bentley EXP 9 F concept, unveiled at the 2012 Geneva auto show gives some indication of what to expect. While the exterior body styling of that concept was heavily debated, the handcrafted interior could be called nothing more than opulent. The EXP 9 F’s wood and metal trim, luxurious leather seats, silk-topped floor mats and private jet-class amenities all point to a 2016 Bentley SUV that will offer passengers a large, king-quality respite from the road outside.
When talking power, we have seen extreme SUV examples in the past such as the BMW X6 M first released in 2011 as you will find in the Truck Trend Magazine’s X6 M First Drive. Motor Trend speculates Bentley’s SUV, “could use the Continental GT’s 500-hp twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 with an eight-speed automatic, and the 6.0-liter W-12 may survive for use under the hood of the long-wheelbase SUV, too.”
This isn’t the first exotic car manufacturer to step into the performance-luxury SUV market. Remember the Lamborghini Urus concept in 2012? Maybe will see something concrete from Lamborghini in the future based on that concept design and Bentley’s official model addition announcement.
