With no news of a true M3 replacement, we have the recently revealed BMW Concept M4 Coupe to look forward to. “M4” just doesn’t quite roll off the tongue with the same finesse and pizazz as our favorite letter/number combo that’s put real performance in a stunning package for four generations.
The M3 has always been the benchmark, but the M4 seems to completely follow in its footsteps, and if its name is the only difference in the true car’s identity—which seems to be the case—then we’re all ears and eyes for this new concept.
Unfortunately, BMW has yet to release official specs on the M4 Coupe, but rumors suggest a 3.0-liter turbo inline-six with around 450hp is likely.
What we do have though are these official photos from BMW, confirming the Concept M4 Coupe is an in your face, sporty and sexy - just as it should be.
Finished in “Aurum Dust”, the dynamic front with its large air inlets, swift side and sporty, low rear are all clearly visible and highlighted. This color reminds us a bit of “Phoenix Yellow” from the E46 M3 - a color that wasn’t nearly as popular as it should have been!
Other design cues tying the Concept M4 Coupe to the M brand are the CFRP (carbon fiber reinforced plastics) such as the front splitter, roof and rear diffuser.
The classic BMW face, with its double kidney grilles hasn’t been lost though, they look larger than we expected and more similar to those found on the massive M6. Twin round LED headlights make the M4 instantly recognizable as part of the M family and the hood centers its “power dome” as the previous two generations of M3’s are known for.
The BMW Concept M4 Coupe, based off of the 2014 4 Series design, looks to be a promising M car and should live up to everything we expect from the next generation M3 coupe, minus the name. We should have further updates for you shortly, as BMW has announced they’ll be unveiling the BMW Concept M4 Sedan at this weekend’s Pebble Beach show on Northern California’s fancy golfing ranch, so stay tuned.
