Ford has released a fun video pitting its Global Rallycross Fiesta ST, driven by Tanner Foust against its Mustang Cobra Jet drag racer, driven by straight-line racing legend Roy Hill, just to see how the two cars compare at zMAX Dragway’s quarter-mile strip.

The 2013 Cobra Jet features a 5.0L V8 powerplant with a Ford Racing-built Whipple 2.9 Supercharger. It ran an 8.99 at 152.2mph. Meanwhile, the Ford Fiesta ST has a much smaller 2.0L, 550+hp engine with an OSME gearbox with custom ratios. It ran a 10.59 at 127.88 – shorter gearing and boost helps it reach 0-60mph in an est. 3 seconds.

The Cobra has dominated the NHRA’s Factory Stock Showdown since the race’s inception two years ago, and the Fiesta has won three consecutive GRC Championships in 2011-2013 and has been on the X Games podium around the world.

“I hit sixth gear before I was even halfway down the track,” said Foust as he recapped racing his GRC Fiesta ST on a dragstrip for the first time. “As I was hitting the rev limiter, I could already hear Roy laughing.”

The Cobra was at an advantage with its 5.0L V8 and Whipple, so we’d like to see it taken to the dirt giving the Fiesta’s AWD and cunning maneuverability the upper hand.
