Ken Block Rally America Details:

  • Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino test Ford Fiesta HFHV rally car
  • Final round of 2013 Rally America season
  • Potential to be first Rally America championship for Hoonigan
  • LSPR event takes place in Houghton, Michigan

Despite a bad start to the 2013 Rally America season, Ken Block and Alex Gelsomino of Hoonigan Racing Division are still in contention for the title after winning the last three events. Tomorrow the team may claim their first-ever championship if a win at the Lake Superior Performance Rally (LSPR) based out of Houghton, Michigan occurs - the final round of the season. While preparing for the battle Block and Gelsomino filmed testing of their Ford Fiesta HFHV rally car.

“This is definitely an exciting position to be in,” said Block. “We started off the season with some bad luck during the first three events, but we’ve gone out and won the last three and clawed our way back from the brink of a disastrous start. Now we’re set up for this ultimate battle in the final race. For us, it’s one of those must-win situations, but I’m feeling confident that we’ll have good pace on stage and that our car is properly dialed in. I’m ready to win this thing and bring home my first-ever championship title!”

Winning the championship won’t be an easy task for Block considering he must battle against the current champion, David Higgins, who coincidentally happens to be one of Block’s driving coaches from early on in his career. Not to mention, Higgins nearly always makes podium at Rally America events. However, Block has won 48 of a possible 98 stages this season to Higgin’s 30.

With Hoonigan Racing so close to nabbing the championship, and Higgins’ own dream of a first overall win, tomorrow’s LSPR event will be exciting to say the least.
