Formula DRIFT Pro 2 Series Details:

  • Formula DRIFT Pro 2 Series will allow new drivers to develop their skills
  • Pro-AM competitors must graduate to Pro 2 Series before entering the Pro Championship Series
  • The same rules and regulations will apply for Pro 2 and Pro Championship Series
  • Pro 2 Series will begin in 2014, but won’t be fully functional until 2015

For new drivers who wish to break into the Formula DRIFT Pro Championship Series, there is now a new stepping stone with the introduction of the Formula DRIFT Pro 2 Series. The series will begin in 2014, but won’t be fully functional until 2015.

The Formula DRIFT Pro 2 Series will serve as a buffer between Pro-Am and the Formula DRIFT Pro Championship, allowing drivers to fine tune their driving skills. Drivers competing in the Pro-Am series will have to earn their way into the Pro 2 Series before graduating into the Pro Championship Series. Additionally, the series is available for Pro Championship drivers who do not meet the minimum to renew their Pro Championship license.

“Formula DRIFT Pro 2 is something that has been long coming. We can now have a proper structure in place for progression up the ladder in Formula DRIFT,” stated Jim Liaw, president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “This will help lessen the burden on the Pro Series and also give new drivers the experience of a world class event.”

The same rules and regulations will apply for the Formula DRIFT Pro 2 Series and the Pro Championship Series. The competition will run as a Top 16 bracket with the qualifying leading into the head-to-head competition.

The Pro 2 Series events will run in conjunction with select Formula DRIFT Pro Championship event rounds, which will provide new drivers the opportunity to get noticed, and a chance to learn what is required in a professional competitive environment.
