Pirelli and WC Visions Announce Partnership Extension

Five-year deal takes alliance through 2018 season

Pirelli Tire North America and WC Vision just announced a five-year extension to the partnership that gives the World Challenge touring car series the name Pirelli World Challenge Championships. This extension takes the partnership through the 2018 season.

The union between series and tire supplier began back in October 2010, when Pirelli became the World Challenge championship's exclusive tire supplier for every class, providing P Zero racing slicks and P Zero rain tires. Their partnership grew on March 16, 2011, with the announcement of the title sponsorship and a new name for the series, today known as the Pirelli World Challenge Championships.

The upcoming 2014 season will be the 25th anniversary for the WC series and is expected to see continued growth in car counts, in addition to an expansion of weekend events. The season will also see NBC Sports Network and live-stream coverage of races, as well as GT3 cars running FIA-approved aero packages, including the Ferrari 458 Italia, Porsche 911 GT3 R, Audi R8 LMS ultra and Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 GT3.

The Pirelli World Challenge's 25th anniversary season starts on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, as part of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. GT, GT-A and GTS classes compete in Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2014 season.
