Carlsson CS Versailles Details:
Attention Dubai sheiks,Taiwanese moneymen and cocaine cowboys! There are the rich and then there are those chauffeured in gold-plated excess while snacking on Bluefin Tuna. The Carlsson CS50 Versailles seen here (CS40 and CS65 also available) – based on the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class – is the latest beacon of four-wheel opulence for the uber wealthy. Plated in pure gold finish from exterior stripping to ridiculous interior, the vehicle’s design pays tribute to the unabashed days of King Louis XIV royalty. 25 examples of this limited edition will be produced, with the greatest of the three models, the CS65, repping a total power output to 700hp. The CS50 Versailles is to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
Who is the demographic for this creation of arrogance? The ultra-wealthy Chinese of course – Taipan clients to be more exact according to Carlsson. And buyers are placing orders with 10 of the 25 already spoken for.

1000 sheets of wafer-thin gold leaf grace the bodywork in a process that takes over 200 man-hours. Each 80x80mm gold leaf is absorbed and placed using a special Squirrel hairbrush in what is known as a Roman Association irregular pattern. 30 exterior and 278 interior components receive the gold finish. Over $16000 worth of 985-quality gold is used within. Start to finish, it takes more than 14 days to prep, install and complete the gold process.
The Carlsson CS Versailles features luxury past a golden sheen. To the exterior, a new standalone alloy wheel design was crafted for the W222 S-Class platform used. The 20” 1/12 Evo Versailles Edition wheel showcases a mirrored surface to mimic the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles. Exclusive aero is included as well. A new front bumper, additional intakes, RS spoiler lip, side skirts, rear spoiler and valence add personality. Life within the cabin continues the palace theme. Everything from HD displays, entertainment systems, cigar humidor, bespoke stitching to Wi-Fi connectivity is available upon customer request. We wonder if Carlsson would be up to installing a tasteful Shark tank doubling as a privacy wall for added wow factor.
For the poorest of millionaires that just need a Versailles edition, multiple S-Class platforms can be chosen to start with. The entry-level CS40 starts at $370K (395000 euros). Then comes the midrange CS50 – both “starter” options use a Mercedes V8 Bi-turbo. But if this car is on your diamond-studded radar, why not go full tilt with the 700hp V12 Bi-turbo CS65 Versailles edition? It’s just money.
