2015 BMW X4 Sports Activity Coupe Details:
When the BMW X4 concept was displayed at the LA Auto Show late last year, it had a finish and polish that told you this wasn’t far from the final version. And true to form, BMW’s concepts are a whisker away from the production model, which has just been announced during the Geneva Auto Show but will actually debut in New York – such is the importance of the US market to this premium SUV.
As a coupe version of the existing BMW X3 SUV, X6’s little brother has familiar underpinnings, with both a 240hp four-cylinder N20 2.0L turbo and 300hp six-cylinder N55 3.0L turbo engine being offered with the excellent ZF eight-speed auto transmission. These powerplants will be familiar to existing BMW drivers and similarly features such as ECO PRO mode, coasting, ECO PRO route options plus auto start/stop function to maximize fuel economy.
Positioned above the X3, the prices will start from $45625 for the xDrive28i and $48925 for the xDrive35i – the xDrive indicating both models will have full-time AWD, although we might expect a cheaper two-wheel drive variant later in the car’s model cycle, if the X3 is any indication.

At 0.6” longer than the X3, this is probably accounted for by a different bumper design. The BMW X4 is also 1.5” lower thanks to an expensive new roofline that lends itself to the coupe styling.
In keeping with its sporting intentions, the front bumper has similar large air intakes and round LED foglights. There’s also a prominent power bulge in the hood and slightly flared fender lines, all aimed at giving the X4 a more muscular appearance.
While many of these characteristics are shared with other X models, the X4 SUV does get a new swage line, or lines, to be accurate. The first rises from the front fender and runs to the rear door handle. It’s then briefly interrupted before the second line sits over the rear fender and flows into the rear light cluster.
Above this second line is a contoured C pillar that flows into the large spoiler on the tailgate. With the latter forming one of the many horizontal lines across the rear to emphasize the vehicle’s width.
With its lowered roofline, the occupants sit slightly lower in the vehicle. The rear bench is more contoured to give the impression of two separates seats, yet is still able to accommodate three people. This bench also offers split folding for versatile cargo carrying.
The standard electrical tailgate operation gets the optional Smart Opener with a movement of the foot. All BMW X4 models also get the iDrive Controller and central display. The controller is equipped with the finger-writing touchpad when navigation is optioned by the owner.
The premium quality is underlined by subtle electroplated accents, a high-gloss black-panel and aluminum trim strips within the wood strips. The X4 SUV will also have a higher specification than the X3, including a standard leather sports steering wheel with shift paddles, variable sports steering, Performance Control and rear Park Distance Control.
The BMW X4 can be optioned with BMW’s color Heads-Up display as well as other driving assists like Active Driving Assistant + Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go includes Pedestrian and Collision Warning with City Braking function as well as Lane Departure Warning. There’s Active Blind Spot Detection and rearview camera with Surround View that provides a bird’s-eye view of the area around the BMW X4 when parking. The optional Parking Assistant will steer the X4 into parallel spaces. Drivers can specify the ConnectedDrive services and BMW apps to further enhance your time behind the wheel.
As always, M Sport and xLine trim packages are available, with the M Sport including an M Aerodynamics package, High-gloss Shadow Line trim and sports suspension. Six paint colors, four special interior trims, sports seats with leather options, an Anthracite headliner, an M leather steering wheel, M door sill finishers, an M driver’s footrest and a choice of 19 or 20” M wheels add a finishing touches to the car’s appearance.
The 2015 BMW X4 Sports Activity Coupe arrives in authorized BMW centers beginning in spring 2014.
