At the 2014 Beijing International Automobile Exhibition, Audi revealed a game changer - the Audi TT Offroad Concept, a four-door model that combines the sportiness of a coupe with the utility of a compact SUV powered by a fuel-efficient yet powerful plug-in hybrid drive.

The Plug-in Hybrid Drive

The plug-in hybrid drive on the Audi TT offroad concept has an output of 408hp and 479lb-ft of torque and is capable of going 0 to 60 in 5.2 seconds. The plug-in hybrid gives the Audi TT Offroad Concept a remarkable fuel economy of 123.8 mpg and the ability to drive over 30 miles solely on electric power, as well as an effective range of up to 546.8 miles.

Chassis/Body

Thanks to its high ground clearance, short overhangs, and e-tron Quattro all-wheel drive, the TT Offroad Concept can easily handle light terrain while looking sporty and composed on asphalt.

Like many of Audi's current models, the Audi TT Offroad Concept is based on the modular transverse matrix (MQB). The body of the TT Offroad Concept is also based on the Audi Space Frame (ASF) principle which, combined with the battery package of the plug-in hybrid drive system, gives the offroad concept a low center of gravity, perfect for its sporty performance requirements.

The TT Offroad Concept front features a horizontal line motif. Narrow louvers in the grille create a form typical of Audi e-tron models, while inlets below the headlights are framed and structured with sharp edges and louvers. In the rear, an offset bumper envelopes the tailpipes while a blade emblazed with the Quattro logo connects them to create a sense of visual width.

From the side, the TT Offroad Concept gives onlookers the sense of a powerful, hunkered-down stance, as broad wheel wells form geometric bodies that sharply accent the massive wheels. The front wheel wells intersect with the joints of the hood, which run above the door as a tornado line to the rear of the car.

Interior

Inside, the TT Offroad Concept offers seating for four. Integrated head restraints in the slim sport seats ensure lateral hold while strongly contoured side bolsters in the front seats give its occupants a sense of security and steadiness.

In the front of the cabin several controls are easily accessible to the driver via either the multifunctional steering wheel or the MMI terminal in the center console. Before the driver an Audi virtual cockpit serves as the instrument display. The Audi virtual cockpit is customizable with the push of a button with classic view showing the speedometer and power meter while infotainment mode shows drivers navigation maps or online traffic information.

In keeping with the sporty character of the Audi TT Offroad Concept, the interior features fine materials that combine light and dark gray tones. Granite Gray Fine Nappa leather on the rim of the steering wheel and door liners, while the headliner, pillar covers, door panels, and center tunnel are covered adorned with matching Alcantara. The door armrests, center tunnel console, and seats feature diamond-patterned stitching in soft luxurious Stone Gray leather from Italian furniture maker, Poltrona Frau.
