2015 Volkswagen GTI Fast Facts:

  • $24395 plus D&H for base Mk7 model - only $195 over previous model despite upgraded performance
  • New GTIs use a EA888 2.0L TSI Turbo engine that produces 210hp and 258 lb-ft of torque
  • Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) will for the first time become available in US for $800
  • The GTI Autobahn is a $29595 four-door model with manual trans standard
  • A $1495 Performance Package will become available with bigger brakes, an electronically torque-sensing limited-slip diff and another 10hp

A new GTI is always a special occasion and today we learned that the Mk7 model will cost from $24395 when it arrives on US soil. This will be for the base “S” trim and doesn’t include the $820 D&H charge. However, it represents an increase of only $195 over the previous model despite more power, torque and higher specification.

All new GTIs will use a 210hp version of the EA888 2.0L TSI Turbo engine that develops 258 lb-ft of torque. Standard equipment will include Driving Mode selector, VW Car-Net connected services, a touchscreen radio, leather multifunction steering wheel and LED foglights.

The S model also gets 18” wheels, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, iPod integration and heated sport seats in heritage GTI design cloth. It’s this two-door GTI S with manual transmission will cost from $24395.

Moving up a rung is the GTI SE that will start from $27395 and adds a sunroof, keyless entry, push-button start, a rearview camera, automatic headlights; rain-sensing wipers, Fender Premium audio and leather seats.

Finally, there will be the GTI Autobahn. However, this will only be available as a four-door model, priced from $29595 with the manual transmission (DSG is extra on all models). It gets navigation, 12-way powered driver’s seat and automatic air conditioning as standard equipment over the spec of the SE model.

Later in the year, an optional Performance Package will be available for $1495 on any model. It will include larger brakes, an electronically torque-sensing limited-slip diff and another 10hp. A further option will be the Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC), which provides adaptive damping and, although offered in europe for several years, this is the first time it will be sold in the US for an additional $800.
