If you're like me and were a sports car racing fan in the 80s, you still fantasize about blasting around race tracks in a Porsche 962. If you have somewhere north of $800,000 and are a registered bidder at the RM Auction on Friday, August 15th in Monterey California, you have your chance.

The Porsche 962 is an evolution of the 956 and is considered by many the most dominant, successful and iconic cars in sports car racing history. The Hotchkis Racing car seen here and offered for sale, is said to be currently ready to race and eligible for vintage events including the upcoming Daytona 24 Hour Classic.

Originally raced in IMSA GTP, it is one of ninety-one 962s originally built by Porsche and is powered by a period correct 3.2-liter single-turbo flat-six built by Porsche Motorsports. It has been rebuilt on a Fabcar tub, considered by most to be an upgrade even in the collectible market.

More details can be found HERE on the RM Auction listing. We here at EC are currently taking up a collection around the office to try and snap this up. If you think you can beat the roughly forty-seven bucks and various free sandwich group-ons we've managed to find, we will be staring you down Friday night.
