Refreshing or Revolting: 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63

The 2015 Mercedes-AMG C63 has gone through some big changes. As previously reported, the last-gen C63 AMG’s 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V-8 is gone, replaced by a new and fancy 4.0-liter twin-turbo eight-cylinder that’s similar to the one in the 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT. Then, of course, there’s its looks, which we’ll explore below.

Up front, the new 2015 C63 is still rocking a hood with power domes, while a large three-pointed star badge also carries over to dominate the grille. The lower bumper, however, looks much more aggressive thanks to those large boxy air scoops. The C63 still sports large wheel arches and the “V8 Biturbo” badge is placed within an indent in the front fender making it look better integrated than the “6.3 AMG” badge on the last-gen model. The accent piece on the rocker panel is subtle and tasteful.

Around back, the last-gen C63 AMG sported subtle tweaks and it appears Mercedes has done the same with the new model. Notable changes include the slit on the outer edges of the lower bumper and the switch from oval to rectangular exhaust tips (there’s still four of them) that are cleanly integrated with the rear diffuser that's now framed by a chrome accent piece on the lower edge. An “S” badge demarcates the new and stronger C63 S model, while a small deck lid spoiler is color-matched -- look for a more garish spoiler if the Black Series variant returns.

Inside, designers appear to have taken it up a notch compared to the last model. The steering wheel, for example, is much sportier with its flat-bottom design, a contrasting center stripe, and a more prominent AMG badge on the lower spoke. There’s also an AMG badge on the center console, instrument panel, and seat backs. Speaking of seats, the new 2015 C63 can be had with sporty and heavily bolstered AMG performance seats.

Driving impressions are still months away, but until then we want to know if you think Benz’s newest track toy is refreshing or revolting. Let us know below.
