2016 Jaguar F-Type Coupe Will Have All-Wheel Drive

Latest model to be at LA Auto Show

Jaguar will add an all-wheel-drive variant of the 2016 Jaguar F-Type coupe, the first of many future F-Type variants to come in the future. Making its debut at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show, the all-wheel-drive 2016 Jaguar F-Type has the potential to push the luxury two-seater into new regions and markets.

Jaguar currently offers all-wheel-drive variants of the XF and XJ sedans in the U.S., but only when equipped with the automaker’s 3.0-liter supercharged V-6 engine (the forthcoming XE will also offer AWD). The 2016 Jaguar F-Type R coupe will be the first vehicle within the brand to offer a 5.0-liter V-8 delivering all-wheel-drive power, but Jaguar has yet to announce if the technology will come to V-6 powered models. The addition of standard all-wheel drive on the F-Type R coupe will shave 0.1 seconds off of the rear-drive model’s 4.0-second 0-60-mph sprint. Top speed will remain electronically limited to 186 mph.

While the Jaguar F-Type has sold well since its arrival, the addition of all-wheel drive could make the sexy two-seater an even more appealing proposition to customers in snowy regions. Rivals like the Porsche 911 and Mercedes-Benz S-Class coupe all offer all-wheel drive.

It's unclear whether both convertible models will also receive AWD at this time, or whether Jaguar will continue to spread out the introduction of F-Type variants over the next few years.

We can expect a long list of F-Type variants in the coming years in addition to the all-wheel-drive 2016 Jaguar F-Type, including a model with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine good for around 300 hp, an F-Type R coupe with a carbon-fiber roof and carbon-ceramic brakes, a limited run of about 50 GT coupe editions with 600 hp, and exclusive Engineered to Order editions. Jaguar already introduced the speedster-style F-Type Project 7 at Pebble Beach.
