Now in its 12th season, the leading international drift championship has announced its official 2015 schedule. The year will consist of seven rounds for the U.S. Pro Championship and three international rounds starting in March. Up to $300,000 in prize money is up for grabs from the championships, per round, and the new Triple Crown bonus, which will be awarded to the driver that can win at three selected rounds.
The 2015 drift season will have a few changes in terms of venues. Orlando Speedworld in Florida has been chosen as the venue for round three instead of Homestead Miami Speedway. The international series will see the addition of China as the as final round of the overall World Championship.
Jim Liaw, President of Formula D, announced that each individual event round winner plus the top eight drivers in the series will be qualified for vehicle transportation and subsidy to the World Championship in China.
Jim Liaw says, "After 11 seasons of Formula Drift, we are excited to launch the World Championship. There is a ton of anticipation to take on this new challenge and raise the global standard for drifting by continuing to grow the series domestically and internationally. We are here for the long run and thus laying this foundation for the future growth of drifting."
