Watch This $200,000 2014 Porsche Turbo 911 S Burn to the Ground!

A bit of gratuitous, traffic-raking Internet entertainment at the expense of a German supercar

Here’s a bit of gratuitous, traffic-raking Internet entertainment at the expense of a German supercar. Wince as you watch this $200,000 2014 Porsche Turbo 911 S Burn to the ground. That’s a 560-horsepower, seven-speed, all-wheel-drive, 10-second, 190-plus-mph car suffering an inglorious end by self-immolating in a Costco parking lot. It had the courtesy to do it within a few blocks of HOT ROD home base, and our friend Robert “Mefi Bob” Radke (MEFIburn.com) was on the scene, cell-phone in hand to capture the photos and video. Says Bob, who drives a 600-horsepower LS-powered Porsche, “The car started smoking a few rows downwind of where I parked, I moved my car upwind of it and saw the flame action.” The owner came out a few minutes later. That’ll ruin a day of bargain shopping in bulk.

Bob told us the front clip of the megabuck car was in salvageable shape until the fire department showed up, and after dowsing the barbeque, destroyed the sheetmetal prying it apart to ensure there were no hot spots. Because, you know, stuff would get messed up if the car caught fire again. Check out the sheetmetal that’s fully melted away, and the intercoolers plopped straight to the ground. We’re no insurance adjusters, but we’ll call this one a total.

Maybe the owner should consider dragging the hulk out to Willow Springs Raceway. “Yeah, man, I was pushing it hard into 9 when it just blew like the Death Star!” Except Costco. Still, not as humiliating as the guy who wadded up his Ford GT directly in front of our office building.

It's been 21 years since the last generation of the Toyota Supra. This version will be the fifth generation and officially named the A90, but people will often refer to it as the MkV, as well (us included).
